Are you searching for God?

Why some people have problem finding God?

I have heard some people say, "I have been searching for God and I could not find him. Show me your God, then I believe." If you are one of them, there is good news for you.

A. Do you believe God exists?

Some people don't believe there is a God and therefore, they don't seek Him.

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).

God's works can be seen in His creations.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands" (Psalm 19:1).

If they were to spend some unhurried time to watch and admire the vast expanse of space filled with the moon and the countless stars with all the galaxies beyond, they will be inspired to believe that there should be a great and mighty Creator behind all of these creations. That little faith could stir them up to search for the Creator God.

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord (Jeremiah 29:13-14).

B. Do you need to see to believe?

Some people want to see God to believe Him. They think that God is someone like a human being with a physical body with all his features. But God is not a created being. He is a Spirit. He has to be Omnipresent to take care of all His creations.

"God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth" (John 4:24).

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go to heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast" (Psalm 139:7-8).

"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities -- his eternal power and divine nature -- have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse" (Romans 1:20).

C. Do you think gods are meant for the poor, sick and helpless?

Some wealthy and healthy people think that the gods are for the poor, sick and helpless man's crutch. They are too proud to seek God.

A certain ruler asked him, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

"Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good -- except God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother."

"All these I have kept since I was a boy," he said.

When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was a man of great wealth.

Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" Those who heard this asked, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus replied, "What is impossible with men is possible with God" (Luke 18:18-25).

Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Like the Rich Ruler they put their confidence in everything other than God.

"I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of God. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of God" (Matthew 18:3-4).
